Don Sweeney was looking for a chance to play, and Montreal GM Brahm Hurwitz was only too happy to give it to him! "I was approached by the Bruins for a possible deal. It's hard trading a good solid blueliner like Ludwig, but we feel Sweeney can step in and contribute. There will be no AHL seasoning here."
Seeing how well Petr Svoboda has played with Rick Green serving a suspension is what pushed Hurwitz to make the deal. "There was interest in Petr, but I hung onto him. Don, Petr, and Chelios can help us now and for years to come. Plus having such great leadership like Gainey, the Big Bird, and Gingras will only help these youngsters improve"
Sweeney is expected to join the team in Pittsburgh for the next game. Patrick Roy will be back in goal after Brian Hayward got a rare start.
