It was a fine night for the New York Rangers home debut at Madison Square Garden infront of a sold out crowd of 17,500 as the Rangers took on the so called powerhouse Edmonton Oilers, defeating them 8-5 and making Grant Fuhr look like an amateur in the process.
The Rangers top line of Adam Oates, Walt Poddubny and Cam Neely had a combined 2 goals, 5 assists while veteran Borje Salming and young stud defenseman James Patrick had 3 points a piece aswell in the win.
While Mike Vernon still allowed 5 goals, he was also 31 for 36 and 2 of those goals were from Wayne Gretzky.. figures. One has to ask though, where was Mark Messier? Oh right, he was a -3. (Price Is Right losing horn)
Oilers GM Jim Roberts has yet to respond to the absolute walloping given to them tonight by the Rangers, who on paper shouldn't be scoring that many goals on them.
Coach Don Cherry was said to not even be surprised after the game, confident in the team's ability to not even care about the superstar team they were facing as the Rangers are just out there to play hockey and not be concerned with how dominant the other team may look.
As for GM Atkinson, he's too busy laughing his ass off.

yup i lost and Grant Fuhr did not play like an amateur at all. He played like a hungover peewee forward trying to play goalie for the first time in his life. While i was clearly on crack or something when i picked the C for my 3rd line... I should have actually scored more, but oh well it is only 1 loss. Good game though. Putting up 8 goals for any team is pretty badass.
